Dental Implant-
What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. It serves as a foundation for attaching a crown, bridge, or denture. Over time, the implant fuses with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration, creating a stable and permanent support for the replacement tooth.
Types of Dental Implants
There are 2 system available in Indian market for different type of patient
1.Conventional implant – The conventional dental implant process typically spend 3 to 6 months, involving consultation, implant placement, healing, and attaching prosthetic teeth, ensuring a sturdy and functional smile.
2.Basal implant- basal implant are used where the bone width and depth is very less and we are not able to place conventional implant and we can load the prosthesis within 72 hours.
Benefits of Dental Implants –
- Improved Appearance: Implants are designed to look and feel like natural teeth, seamlessly blending with your smile.
- Enhanced Comfort: Unlike dentures, implants eliminate the discomfort of removable prosthetics by becoming a part of your jawbone.
- Better Functionality: Implants allow you to chew, bite, and speak confidently without slipping or causing pain.
- Preservation of Jawbone: They stimulate bone growth and prevent bone loss that typically occurs after tooth loss.
- Durability: With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
- No Impact on Adjacent Teeth: Unlike traditional bridges, implants don’t require the alteration of neighboring healthy teeth.
The Implant Procedure –
1. Initial Consultation and Evaluation
- The process begins with a thorough evaluation, including X-rays or 3D scans, to assess the condition of your jawbone and overall oral health. Your dentist will also review your medical history to ensure you are a suitable candidate.
Preparatory Steps
- Bone Grafting (if needed): For patients with insufficient bone density, a graft may be necessary to provide a solid foundation for the implant.
- Tooth Extraction: If a damaged tooth is present, it will be removed before placing the implant.
Bone Grafting
Implant Placement- Under local anesthesia, the dentist surgically places the implant into the jawbone. Healing typically takes 3–6 months as the implant integrates with the bone.

Recovery and Aftercare-
Recovery from dental implant surgery varies, but most patients experience minimal discomfort. Common post-procedure symptoms include mild swelling, soreness, or bruising, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and ice packs. Following these aftercare tips will ensure a smooth healing process:
- Maintain Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss daily to keep the area clean and prevent infections.
- Soft Diet: Stick to soft foods for a few days to avoid putting pressure on the implant site.
- Regular Checkups: Visit your dentist for follow-ups and professional cleanings to monitor the implant’s progress.
- Avoid Smoking: Smoking can delay healing and increase the risk of implant failure
